DIRECTOR'S BIO
TARA ERICA MOORETara is the award-winning South African director of the 2025 Oscars® contender, “LEGACY: APARTHEID'S SHADOW”. The film, described by Variety as a "People's history of South Africa", reflects her belief in the power of media to change the world.
Born during Apartheid, and raised between South Africa and Connecticut, her bi-continental upbringing, along with her biracial identity (she is of South Asian and English descent), greatly informs her film-making perspective. Tara holds a BA from Wesleyan University and an MBA from UCLA Anderson. |
Tara Moore’s directorial debut, Legacy, is a documentary that wears its heart on its sleeve to serve up one of the most detailed and perspective-shifting depictions of the scope and scale of Apartheid." |
SYNOPSIS
|
Thirty years after the fall of apartheid, South Africa remains the most unequal country in the world. A landmark documentary that reveals the deep-rooted forces of inequality still shaping the world today.
With unprecedented access, the film follows the grandson of the so-called ‘Architect of Apartheid’ as he grapples with his family’s role in one of history’s most brutal regimes. His deeply personal reckoning exposes apartheid’s endurance today, both systemically and psychologically. LEGACY is not only a definitive chronicle of South Africa, it’s a global call to confront the past in order to re-imagine a more equal future. A vital meditation on accountability and social justice that resonates far beyond one nation, mirroring struggles playing out worldwide today - making it not only timely, but essential viewing. |
